Hvass&Hannibal: Losing the Plot

Inspired by the collation and sorting of random data sources, Danish design polymaths Nan Na Hvass and Sofie Hannibal are reinterpreting information and expressing it by way of wooden sculptures, hand-benched silkscreen prints and offset posters. The result is a crafted appearance of layers and textures that belie the hard-edged nature of the raw data.

When subjecting themselves to this bombardment of information, from probability theory to landscape mapping to the registration of natural phenomena, Hvass&Hannibal “got lost, and went a bit mad, often ending up with a hypnotising pattern instead of an informative plotted or charted result. The essence is that the process of envisioning information can be used as a tool to come up with a certain type of graphic expression.”

Sofie and Nan Na’s digestion of the data results in a softening, apparent in the silkscreen images and wooden pieces, where the form of the diagram melds with concepts of patterns, geometric repetition, and the visual impact that these effects can have.

For sale as part of the exhibition will be a series of screenprints, wooden wall pieces, as well as wooden sculptures, all available exclusively from the gallery and online shop.
